5 Failed Picture Attempts with Christ the Redeemer

One of Rio de Janeiro’s most recognizable landmarks is Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor in Portuguese). This massive statue stands on the peak of the Corcovado mountain at 98 feet tall, and its horizontally extended arms span 92 feet. You will see this glorious statue watching over the city wherever you go in Rio. It attracts 3,000- 4,000 visitors daily, or over a million yearly. People from all over the world travel to come and do the most to get a picture of the statue. However, as you can imagine, picture-taking is a challenge with such a popular attraction!

Here are 5 of the 100s of hilarious attempts I made at getting a halfway decent shot with Christ the Redeemer:

We strategized about where to go for the best shot when we arrived. There was a cluster of people directly in the center, a few feet in front of the statue, but we decided to go off to the side where it was a little less crowded.

And voila, this magic happened!

We quickly realized taking pictures from the side wasn’t working out, so we decided to go to the center. At this point, I could only smile through the whole experience!

The few money-maker shots!!!

When we were over taking pictures, we walked around the perimeter of the statue to enjoy the stunning panoramic views of Rio. I strongly recommend visiting the Christ the Redeemer statue as early as possible (it opens at 8 am). You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy it with a smaller crowd.
